Darron Leiker, City Manager for the City of Wichita Falls was the guest speaker for the Burkburnett Rotary Club's October 11th luncheon meeting.

He spoke on several topics regarding the City of Wichita Falls including the city's unemployment at 4.0% which is slightly less than the entire state of Texas. Other items of note that shared with us included:

- Local hotel occupancy rate is up.
- Wichita will start seeing a 1/2 Billion dollars in construction projects.
- Downtown Wichita buildings received several grants last year, assisting in bringing them up to code. Businesses are picking up!
Mr. Leiker estimated that last year alone $200 million dollars was spent on travel expenses throughout Wichita Falls. That’s huge for Wichita businesses!

In addition water concerns were discussed. Wichita falls has only received 12 inch of rain this year leaving lakes at 67% of capacity. At 65% the city will begin stage one water restrictions which effects Burkburnett as well per our contract.

Membership and guests were appreciative of the information about our neighboring city. Thank you Darron for all the good information.
